Top Proposals

Itze
http://www.technicolormotion.blogspot.com/

I think Itze's proposal about gay/homosexual rights is preety impresive because her proposal shows they deserve the right to be accepted as a normal human being. It also shows how she explains her point and details it. Genders should be a choice that everyone can make. She just wants tto add more rights to the homosexual people and let them be free.

Roxanne
http://www.roxi-shore.blogspot.com/

The discrimination in Puerto Rico about Racism is very important and Roxanne showed a lot of examples why it has become a struggle lately. I like how she pointed out when people should be put to jail by making an offensive comment. I think Puerto Rico should change by treating nicely to people as a start. I will show a huge impact and difference in our society.

Nestor
http://www.nestor40.blogspot.com/

An amendment for equality for people with disabilities is a change to society. Nestor showed how it is time to make rights for this people because it is increasing in society but the only problem is the segregation in the government. I really enjoyed the effort Nestor put in and how he demonstrated the change that can be made. I think its not that hard for the world to do that.

Gabriela S.
http://www.vabiilately.blogspot.com/

The elderly is a very important trait in society and I have noticed that it has been forgotten in our society. Gabriela showed the importance of th elderly and how populated they are. I like the way they she uses her point of view and the differences involved. Although she has the same theme of my blog, I think she has some good ideas to add to elderly rights.

Ivania
http://www.icolon.blogspot.com/

Ivania's point of view really impressed me because Its very true. I think the criminals inside jail should have time to see their family outside or have at least one day of freedom becuas ethis all leads to suicide and death. This proposal shows the truth of many real people that have been dealing with this cause. In addition, it could create peace to many families.

Shae-lynn
http://www.imaginationmakesitfun.blogspot.com/

Job opportunities are very difficult to have and that is happening to the LGBT people. I think Shae-Lynn's blog shows a lot of informaqtion involving herself and what she thinks is right. She makes a statement saying that they should be treated as normal people and its true. I think its very important to recognize these situations you should judge someone for what they appear.

Bianca
http://www.travelingwithbianca.blogspot.com/

Scholarships are very important for manyy students going to college. Its an opportunity that can really make a difference in their life. Bianca in he proposal talks about how students could pay on time and the things they can do and that really impressed me. Students now at days are passing through this situation and we need to make a change in this.  They are sufffereing through economic crisis and he government too.

Nicolle
http://www.nicollemarie23.blogspot.com/

People with disabilities has a lot of problems ocurring in their life such as discrimination and in Nicolle's proposal she makes an amendment saying the differences that can be made. I agree with Nicolle when she says that she wants equallity for all but the only way it can bqe done is by ending segregation in society by the government. Alot of things qare happening in the members of qsociety but we must put an end to this.

Irelis
http://www.darkhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/

Jqapanese Americans in World War 11 has been an important trait in our history. I understand the points Irelis makes in her proposal and I agree with her. Japanese Amerians were mistreated with racism and even with violence. Its a really huge impact that has been done in them. I think Irelis based her blog on the differences made and what can be done.

Carol
http://www.mostwonderfull.blogspot.com/

I agree with Carol's proposal abotu eliminating the rule to get out of jail for good behavior. Prisoners are a big part of society but restrictions have to be made. If prisoners were sent to jail by something bad done, why should they go so easily. This point in Carol's blog was very shocking. These rights should be added to make a chqange in society.

My Proposal

I, Karlitza Belen Lebron. would like to propose for the Elderly Rights to make change for them in the future. The elderly are treated more carefully and more polite but they don't have a lot of rights like others do. I would like to propose a change to the the Elderly Rights to make a difference. They should have the same opportunities and rights like us.

An elderly individual has all the rights, benefits, responsibilities, and privileges granted by the constitution and laws of this state and the United States, except where lawfully restricted. The elderly individual has the right to be free of interference, coercion, discrimination, and reprisal in exercising these civil rights. An elderly individual has the right to be treated with dignity and respect for the personal integrity of the individual, without regard to race, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability or source of payment.

Other rights the eldery should have is the abuthority to complain about the individual's care or treatment. An elderly individual is entitled to privacy while attending to personal needs and a private place for receiving visitors or associating with other individuals unless providing privacy would infringe on the rights of other individuals. An elderly individual may manage the individual’s personal financial affairs. An elderly individual may choose and retain a personal physician and is entitled to be fully informed in advance about treatment or care that may affect the individual’s well-being.
The Elderly Rights Act has provided a lot of useful resources for the elderly in their life but I think we could add some other things too. I would recommend all of there things to the poor senior citizens especially. The senior citizens are very important in our society. They are our inspiration when we are all grown up because we will become like them.

The Elderly Rights

The current state of the Elderly rights Act is excellent with the changed that were involved. Another change that occurred throughout the years is the reauthorization to Older Americans Act Choice for Independence in 2006. This provided a project called " Choices for Independence" which promotes long term care options for the elderly.

The Elderly Rights began in 1965 and has been changing throughout the years. In 1965, the act was signed by president Lyndon Johnson and it provided a lot of benefits such as incomes in retirement and a hood healthcare. It also provided an Administration of Aging which protected the elderly citizens in the United States. The Act also authorizes to make community planning and service programs.

In 2000,  the Elderly Rights started to change. It added a new program called National Family Caregiver Support Program which helped the nation's needs of millions of families who care for their old loved ones. This Act also contains the same rights such as the protection needed for the older citizens's rights and dignity.

The AARP International Rights was made in 2008 when it was upheld. It provided place programs to improve the quality of the life of the elderly with the necessary protection, care, and support. They also encouraged the elderly to choose a healthy lifestyle by eating carefully, doing exercise, and by not smoking. These are habits the rights provide so the elderly citizens could have a good life.

In my personal opinion, the elderly should have the right to retake the driving exam so they can drive unless they have a medical condition. The Elderly with medical conditions should have a nurse in their homw if its necessary. They should have lower prices for their medications. I also think the elderly  should have a fun program that they could enjoy everyday in their life.

The AARP's struggle

The American Association of Retired Persons is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping older Americans achieve lives of independence, dignity, and purpose. The AARP has been an effective advocate regarding issues involving older persons, in part because of its large membership and its ability to mobilize its members to lobby for its positions before Congress and government agencies.

The organization has concentrated much of its effort on social security, medicare, and long-term care issues. The AARP has fought zealously to protect the Social Security benefits of retired citizens and has resisted efforts by Congress to change the system itself. The elderly members resist discrimination and fight by congress in a peacefull way but the most major discrimination is their age. Because of that they have many problems getting jobs.

For male senior executives, the fear of age discrimination has led to an increasing demand for most older workers that appears little they can do to resist being swept aside in favour of younger replacements. Although such discrimination could be seen in a reluctance to hire workers who were perceived to be too young and immature for the job, in practice it refers to a bias against older workers. The argument that anti-discrimination laws are good for employers offends economics and common sense. If hiring and promoting old workers were in best interests would do so without the need for such laws.

The AARP'S Oppression

The AARP has been mnistreated by racial discrimination and wrongful termination so it was eventually sued by a man named Michael Moreno. He claims of failing and refusing to promote Latinos and Native Americans. Thomas A. Saenz said "With our nation's significant and fast-growing Latino population over 50, it is critical that an organization  as improtant as AARP include and incorporate Latinos at all levels of leadership.".

The AARP has had violations of civil rights in the constitution by  racial and age discrimination by other people to the elderly members.Elderly people are having a hard time looking for jobs because of their age.. Another Opression caused by the AARP  was a 63 year old women form Michigan by age discrimination. Bonita Brady says the group passed her over for a series of jobs because she was too old, despite excellent job reviews so she sued them. She was held as a health representative but she was fired by her age.

In the Civil Rights of the Constitution/ Bill of Rights, some violations have been violated like having equal rights no matter what race or age you have wich is part of discrimination. The AARP rights movement helps these people to have a better life regardless of the issues involving with the elderly people.

Some acts were made for the ederly like The Older Americans Act of the federal Administration on Aging. Civil rights of older people were also written into legislation.  The Age Discrimination  in Employment Act of protects applicants and employees age 40 and over from discrimination, and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits discrimination on age.

The AARP's history

The AARP, American Association of retired persons, is based in the United States. The AARP was found by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus for people age 50 and over in 1958. This type of organization provides resources for a good life and health. For example, it provides services, benefits, and medications. This association started by a group of bussinessmen like leonard Davis. As he made this organization, the government started investigating its non profit status in congregassional hearings but not alot of evidence was found.

The AARP is widely known for addressing issues affecting older Americans through a multitude of initiatives like having their own rights for a change.AARP also provides extensive consumer information, volunteer opportunities, and events including the annual National Event & Expo in Los Angeles. One of AARP's goals is to reduce hunger among seniors through the Drive to End Hunger.

The AARP has a population of 40 million members in the United States. In modern day, the total US population is made up about 33.2 million elderly people. In Florida and Pennsylvania  had high proportions of elderly about 14 percent or more in the United States. The AARP having a alot of members needs the help of a good health care as well as a good shelter for the elderly as they are increasing,

My perspective on some blogs

Roxanne
http://www.roxi-shore.blogspot.com/

Based on what I read about Roxanne's Blog, I think it was a good topic and it was very interesting to see how she added up so many details and examples.  I like how she defends the native americans based on what is true. She emphazises alot on the history of the white people and the Native Americans.

Randy
http://www.randyeloko.blogspot.com/

The topic that Randy used for his blog was very good. He supported it with may facts and descriptions based on some examples. You could definitely see the effort he put in to it. I think Randy's blog was presentable and interesting in a way I could understand what he was talking about. Hes statements and comparisons were very good too.

Carolina
http://www.immigrationspot.blogspot.com/

I think Carolina's blog was very creative. I like the way she added photos to support her topic and facts too. I also like her comparisons because it shows the agreements and disagreements Native Americans and White people had between them and the struggle Native Americans faced along the way. Carolina from what Ive read did a very good job.

Itze
http://www.technicolormotion.blogspot.com/

Upon my readings on Itze's Blog, I think that it was very interesting. I've always like her way of writing and the description she always puts to support her ideas. Another reason would be the supporting facts she emphazises on and some stereotypes she puts on as examples to support her statement. So finally, I say that Itza did a really good job on her essay.

Mandy
http://www.mandy0711.blogspot.com/

I reflect Mandy's Blog as being very spontanous in a way that he really put hard facts to support his main idea. Although he didnt put pictures to describe some major points in his essay, he put alot of description to everything that was occurring. I most say that It was impressing to see so much opinions he made on what he believes. It really defines himself as really defending the Indians and believeing what they really are.

Life at the reservations for Native Americans

Native Americans by the mid 1800s were forced by the government to move to reservations and obligate them to assimilate with the white people´s culture and customs. The white settlers also wanted to take Native American lands on the Great Plains or they will eventually die but it was difficult for Native Americans because it was their homw for many centuries. They were starving and suffering from food in their lands that they finally had no othyer choice but to surrender and move to the reservations.

When the Native Americans moved to the reservations, life became different. They had new customs and beliefs. Native Americans were no longer seemed as they are and they were all equal there. In the movie, Bury my heart at wounded knee. Chief Sitting Bull in the reservations was treated as a Normal native American and not a Chief with power. Most Native American children attended school and were called with white christian names they assigned to each one of them. This was also part of the assimilation process. They had to assimilate by cutting off their hair to look like them. Their religion was changed to christianity. In the movie, Charles Eastman was an inspiration for many Native American boys to assimilate with the white people. They had no liberty and had to follow and respect certain rules.

In the reservations, some problems they faced were mostly health concerns, food, respect, liberty, and many more. Native Americans became sick by diseases spreading through the reservationsbut there were not enough medications for everyone. The medications that were given were mostly cotoil wich is bad. Thats what happened in the movie with Charles Eastman because he was  a doctor that studied at Boston Medical School. Native Americans had lands that were divided with difficulties in growing crops and having certain amounts of food to eat. Most white people showed respect to Native Americans by welcoming them but it was told to avoid war and rivalry between the tribes because for them it was a land of peace.

Charles Eastmen, son of Chief Sitting Bull, was assimilated with the white people and he became a doctor that lived on the reservations for many years. He had also an affair and romance with Elaine Good Ale. Life for him was very good actually in my opinion. He had an office and a stabled house too. When the Native Americans came, he was very happy to see them but he had a hard time understanding his father and their sufferings. He helped the white people divide ther lands and make good offers. In his life, he also had an Indian name from his tribe wich was Kohiesa. Charles Eastman also worked as a police but his life became difficult remembering memories he had in his real home and he felt sad by the way he misses it so much.

Native Americans had a hard time in the reservations with the white people because of their surrender. In the reservations, they divided the lands with its individual tribes. Charles Eastman was an indian man who assimilated with the white people and lived on the reservations. I think that it was a good choice to move to the reservations because then they could die with diseases spreading around and the hunger they were facing although many issues ocurred it was better than the ones they had in their home.

Blog Reflections

Paola
http://www.mylifeaspaola.blogspot.com/

I thought Paola's blog vas very interesting. The best part I liked about her blog was her newsletter about a girl named Paolina that moved to the Unites states in search of the American Dream. I like how she writes everything she does on her diary called Daisy. Besides her newsletter, the history of italian immigation surprised me with certain facts like when Italians were unskiled workers until later then they became skilled workers and got better job opportunities. In my opinion, I honestly think it was good.

Roxanne
http://www.roxi-shore.blogspot.com/

I think that Roxanne's blog is exciting. The best part about her blog is her video clip. It was very movitating because it expresses different issues the immigrants faced through their journey to America. One of them was to pay fees. An interesting fact about her video was that people work hard to earn their money and later then it is taken and that immigrants are seemed as illegal if they dont have constitutional papers to enter the United States.

Nestor
http://www.nestor40.blogspot.com/

I think Nestor's blog shows a lot of interesting facts. One of them was his information on his family story. I like how he expresses a lot of his personal life and how his mother is half french. I found interesting Nestor's family beause they come from different ethnicities that you didnt imagined.

Mariah
http://www.mariahcarolina.blogspot.com/

Ithink Mariah's blog was really fun and good. I like her family story and the pictures she had. It was very surprising to see that her last name came from Spain. Another interesting fact was that her uncle immigrated legally to Florida. I read most of the information on her blog and it wad really good but her descendant family article was the most exciting.

My Culture's Heritage

Puerto Rico was found by Christopher Columbus in 1493. While the Spanish held control of Puerto Rico,  the island's culture has numerous ethnicities that have blended with its culture to create an amazing heritage. They later enslaved a large group known was the Taino Indians. Its use was to populate the island and they establish their culture.

The next group of people to influence the culture of Puerto Rico were the African slaves. They were brought as plantation workers and they established their language, music, and food. Immigation continued to be spread in Puerto Rico over the years.

Chinese immigrants were brought to the island to work on projects. The Chinese were followed by European immigrants from Italy, France, and Germany, while Spanish loyalists in South America fled to Puerto Rico during the movement of Bolívar.

Puerto Ricans have become good people throughout their diffrenet cultures that were brought. It has formed a better union through immigration in Puerto Rico

My uncle named Luis Lebron moved to the United states almost 12 years ago when I was little. He worked as an industrial manager in P.R but the industry closed so he was looking for other job opportunities but he couldnt find anything. So he started looking for jobs outside of P.R and he found one. My uncle unfortubately had to move to California but he promised to visit every christmas. He finally immigrated to the United States. It was a hard moment in his life to leave his family and friends but it seemed as his only choice. So far hes done a good jod and has being used to ther culture and language. The only advantage he had was that he spoke English but he had trouble sometimes with his neighbors. It was based on discriminitation but he passes because he was white at least but later then they became good friends.

Rush Limbaugh's opinion on Illegal Immigration

}

I think illegal immigration as my topic is unfair to certain laws that Rush Limbaugh
mentioned. One of the laws was for immigrants to only speak english because its
their native language and I disagreed. Rush is expressing his anger on protest by
foreigners and I agree in wich the only people that could decide wether something
is good or bad is the society that was born there. This type of issues affect me
because I viewed immigration as being unviolent and not in a strict and corrupt
way. Immigration was people working hard to get better opportunities and changes
in their life. I think their should be a reunion discussing several ideas on their nation to
make things better and end racial relations between them. I believe as my personal
opinion that everybody needs to have equalrights. These foreign laws prohibit them
from protesting, good paying jobs, and government problems. In response, they
should establish new laws in wich immigrants and citizens could have equal rights.
Illegal immigration affects many people and it will become a major issue throughout
the world.

The life of Aimi Masuko as an immigrant

I, Aimi Masuko( 愛美 益子), am an immigrant from Japan to the United States in search for a
better education and job opportunity. When I first came, I hoped for a good job witha lot of
money but I became an agricultural laborer with a low wage even though I worked long
hours with hard work but later then Japanese wages increased. It overtook most white paying
jobs. As the years past I became a successful farmer.

I was an employed japanese until I came to the United states but It wasn't easy to get here. People
treated me differently and I felt unappreciated. One of the most difficult phases through this
journey was to speak english to communicate and understand them.

Entering the United States was expensive. I could not enter first nor second class passages. I had
to come through the processing center. I imagined the United States as a rich land of opportunities
like everybody else but it didn't turned out to be like that

I faced a lot of racial issues living in the U.S. It was governed by changing legal restrictions and relations between its nation.  Most Americans made racial stereotypes to make laws that denied citizenship and property ownership. These were difficult moments I had to face throughout the years. I've been living  for three years now.

The Japanese History Immigration in the United States

The Japanese finally immigrated to Hawai. The Japanese people were mostly unemployed, bankrupticies, and civil disorders. Immigrants were mostly men because of the boom in the Sugar Industry wich made a huge impact on the economy in Japan.

The journey to the United States was based only on hope for a better and easier life. It was became a good journey under the American laws  leaving thousands of Japanese free to immigrate to the U.S. Then Hawaii became the main are of concentration for Japanese for many years

Once the Japanese arrived to the United States, they realized that there were better race relations. They started as agricultural laborers wiht lower payment that the white people. Then they had success and advancement until the "Yellow Peril" was initialized. It was a threat to the livind conditions of the American citizens as workers and bussinessmen. Because of that, Laws were presented through all the stated preventing the occupations for Japanese and their purchased land

Life seemed hard for Japanese Immigrants so It made me view immigration as a better opportunity but at the same time as something risky. If I were to be immigrated to the United States, It will be very hard. Id had to accustom their different cultures and beliefs as an immigrant at that time. The United States citizens treat immigrants with discrimination among them but we can overlap those circumstances for Japanese to reach their dreams.

A japanese family immigrating to the United States for a permanent residence

Japanese immigrants landing in the United States well known as the land of opportunities to a better life.
